The first course on Open Source GIS in Ireland finished last Saturday after 15 hours - in two days ;-) - of training.

It will be repeated on Sunday the 14th and Saturday the 20th of August.

The course was held in collaboration with the Irish Archaeological Field School.

At the beginning the course focused on introductory topics like GIS concepts and GIS data type, then moved to the georeferencing and digitizing modules. At last we practice with the Map Composer module in order to produce printable version of archaeological map.

Students managed to reach the end of the course by printing their own first excavation plan of Black Friary field school excavation in Trim, Co. Meath (see figure above).
